Austin Flood Demolition and Remediation
June, 2008
After experiencing two major floods in 5 years, the City of Austin, MN was finally prepared to use its FEMA money to demolish some of the downtown area. Already challenged by the City Engineer’s tight project schedule, the Dulas team was tested again only 2 days after the demolition process had begun. When torrential rains began to fall, the city’s infrastructure was overwhelmed causing flooding that required immediate evacuation. With water levels rapidly rising, Dulas quickly mobilized and moved off site. The evacuation lasted a total of three days marking the third major 100-year flood for the city of Austin within 5 years.
